It's been a long time since my last post! Just to catch you up, last Friday I went on a tour of ICRISAT. My tour guide was a really nice older guy who had been working here for over 30 years. He has this rain catching system at his house, and all his wife use to bath and drink and cook with is rain water. ICRISAT even made their own version at their greenhouses. These are just some pictures I took on the tour.
The weekend was pretty relaxed, because again, I did nothing. Monday, however was exciting! I became reassigned to a new supervisor because mine has been really busy. On top of that, Ms. Mula asked if I wanted to come into town with her so I could grocery shop. Ms. Mula's niece is also an intern here right now, her name is Lara. Me and Lara have become pretty close. So we went grocery shopping in town and I definitely spent more than I should have on snacks.
The grocery store was inside a huge mall. This mall was bigger than one I had ever seen. It was 4 floors and had a wranglers store, MAC, Body Shop, and a whole bunch of stores from back home. I was shocked by the amount of security. When you pulled up to the mall, they made you pop your trunk and they searched it and they had mirrors they put under your car. Even when I went inside, I had to put my wallet through an x-ray machine and they patted me down. Super awkward to say the least. But it was nice to have Lara and Ms. Mula there because they do not take nonsense from anyone. Hahaha, but after shopping, we got something to eat on our way home. Like Asha told me, there was a KFC right in the middle of Hyderabad and we ate there. It was actually super fancy, and I felt so under dressed. However, fast food never tasted so good. I have been craving American food since I left, and here I was eating fried chicken, drinking coke and listening to Kesha in India and it made me feel right back at home.
Nothing could prepare me for what happened next. Since Monday, (it's now Thursday) I have had the worst food poisoning. I have never been more sick or tired in my life. I do not think I will be able to eat out again after this. Its been four days, and I still feel pretty awful. I know it's part of international traveling, so I'm trying to ignore it and just work on my project and enjoy my time here. I've been here for almost two weeks, and my project is taking off. I learned that I'll actually be able to visit two villages (Aurepalle and Dokur) to do my surveys that I make. I'm missing all of you back home and thinking of you lots. xoxo
PS I'm still my dorky self obviously because for breakfast every morning I have purple grape juice and green grapes
Lots of love
Kirsten
